This month is the month of one of the most important “family” holidays to Americans. Being that Thanksgiving is a time when we share our homes, meals & what we’re thankful for with friends & family, maybe this year you could share some warm thoughts with a U.S. soldier as well. It wouldn’t take much time at all to either buy them a cup of coffee or “adopt them“, or write them a note of thanks. And also, please remember those who won’t be coming home to their families this year…

When you or your kids are putting on your Halloween costumes next week, or trick-or-treating, or making candy apples with the family, please remember all the children without parents… or parents without children thanks to these wars. Remember all the broken families these wars have caused. Just take one minute to think of them out of your day. Don’t let them be forgotten or taken for granted.

Hopefully what our President says is true, & by the holidays the troops will be home & this list can start to get shorter!

With each Military Monday, I find myself wondering when this is going to end. Where are we hoping to take this? Why are we still over there? When are our boys & girls going to come home, safe & sound? I hate to think anyone has died in vain, but what is the ultimate goal? Another Military Monday. In case you’re unfamiliar with this concept: each week I list names of soldiers who’ve lost their lives in one of the wars the United States is currently participating in, usually accompanied by a patriotic or red/white/blue baked item or food. I’ve been doing it since May of 2009 when Yoyo asked me to do it with her, & I think I’ve only missed one week.

I’m so very proud of our military, especially it being a volunteer service. These people volunteer to do what the rest of us wouldn’t. They deserve so much better from us as a country.

Not to mention support for our troops is NOT a singularly political idea. It’s not a Republican or Democratic or Independent thing. It’s just the right thing.

Exactly 10 years ago yesterday was one of the most frightening days of my life. I was in New York City that morning, and was on the first train that was back up & running out of Penn Station later that afternoon, and it was a day I’ll not only never forget, but a day that remembering will always give me chills. I have already posted some of my photos from my visit to the 9/11 Museum. Today just so happens to be the 4 year anniversary of this blog as well.

But it isn’t about me, or Cupcake Rehab. Today is Military Monday. However this week, I am not going to list any names. I’m just posting that photo in hopes that everyone take a moment to remember not only those in our military, but those in our police forces, fire departments, and all those who keep you safe on a daily basis and who would lay down their lives for you at any given moment… and those who already have, including brave civilians.

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) — In the single deadliest loss for U.S. troops since the Afghan war began in late 2001, 30 service members died early Saturday when a helicopter carrying them went down while they were reinforcing other troops, officials said.

Insurgents are believed to have shot down the CH-47 Chinook, a U.S. military official said. The Taliban claimed militants downed the helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade.

Among the 25 U.S. special operations forces killed in Wardak province were 22 Navy SEALS, considered to be the “best of the best.” Seven Afghan troops also died.
