A lot of people are under the (incorrect) assumption that because I participate in Military Monday I am of a certain political frame of mind. I am not of the “right” wing persuasion. I am of the middle, and at times to the “left” of things. I don’t really see why there has a to be a label when it comes to this, as if someone who is one party can’t be as patriotic or proud of our troops as someone of the other party. It’s insanity. I’m for all things American: freedom of SPEECH, freedom of RELIGION and equality of man (& woman), as well as I think we should all have incredible amounts of respect for our military and every single man & woman who’s fought in it for the past 200+ years. I come from a family with a rich military history, including the Civil War. My third great-grandfather came here as an immigrant and immediately signed up to fight for the Union in that war, and fight for what was right. He came home wounded after giving a full 5 years of service to this country and the start of “civil” rights. I would never muddle the meaning of his efforts in any way by assuming that just because you believe differently than another group of people you’re less patriotic than them… so please, when you stop and think about our troops every Monday… think about the fact that it’s not just ONE party that cares about them.
I’d also like them to come home already. But at this rate, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon. I think we all need one of those drinks up there…
