Did you attend the Pickling Party today? If not, there’s still time! Get yourself something & pickle it. Zucchini, beets, cucumbers, carrots, asparagus… anything can be pickled. If you never pickled before, maybe now’s the time to start.

I made one fairly large jar of hot pickles with a Habanero from my garden (recipe to come!) and one baby 8 oz. jar of garlic spears made from super small Kirby’s. So cute. That would be the perfect size to bring on a picnic, since it could fit anywhere- in a pocket, a picnic basket, a purse, etc. I never made pickles in a small jar before, but two of the cukes I bought were so short & squat, it only made sense to put them in a little jar. And then I thought, “Why haven’t I done that before!?” It makes sense; tiny pickles, tiny jar. These aren’t processed pickles, they’re fridge pickles.
Refrigerator pickles are so easy, there’s no reason not to pickle. And if you’ve got the time, space or equipment for canning, why not do it!? Don’t wait for the Pickling Party 2012.

You are completely inspiring me to pickle/jam things. Is that the right verbage? All I know is I want to do it and you make it seem so easy. My grandmother used to make her own pickles and jams/jellies/preserves and sadly, I never learned from her.

p.s. Question for you… If you were to bake a 50's inspired cake for a retro 50's wedding picnic, what would you do? I've been wracking my brain for a bit and it's starting to hurt.
That’s great that you’re inspired!! It’s easy once you start. I hope you try it 😉 Start slow with refrigerator pickles… then progress to canning. It’s so much fun!
