A deliciously NON-GMO giveaway from Milton’s Baking.

September 2, 2013

A giveaway for Milton's organic crackers!

I come from a cracker family. I know, I know, that sounds weird. But it’s true. When it comes to snacking, some families are potato chip/pretzel families, some families are cookie families (we might be a little of that too), and some are cracker families. When I was a kid, my grandmother was always eating soda crackers or other more buttery snack crackers. Sometimes plain, sometimes with a little butter, sometimes with cheese. My mother favored ‘fancier’ crackers like the baked whole wheat kind, with some goat cheese or brie, or maybe some fig jam. My dad on the other hand loves crackers, chips and cookies. Jay is a pretzel guy, but he does like the occasional cracker, maybe even with some aged cheddar.

So when I got an e-mail asking me to review & host a giveaway for Milton’s Craft Bakers brand new line of crackers, I was psyched. To find out they’re naturally sweetened, non-GMO & organic was a bonus! I love to buy things that aren’t genetically modified, and I try to do the best I can. I don’t go nuts about it, but I do try. It can be really hard sometimes- companies are very, very sneaky about this stuff. Not only that, but some of our old favorites that we just buy because we always did have come to be known as not so great choices nowadays. Between high-fructose corn syrup, GMO ingredients & trans fats, finding new, delicious alternatives isn’t always easy. Some “all-natural” options taste like cardboard. Others break the bank- lots of money for minimal product.

Milton's Craft Baker's organic crackers with tomato jam & raspberry jalapeno cilantro jam!

Milton’s started in 1995 with the opening of Milton’s Restaurant & Delicatessen in Del Mar, CA. As the story goes:

Milton’s founders continued their pursuit and passion by creating great tasting breads for their sandwich offerings.  Our customers loved the bread so much that they wanted to take it home with them…thus began Milton’s Baking Company.

Since those days, we have continued to grow our line of delicious and nutritious breads and developed an assortment of flavorful crackers made with the same whole grains and goodness as our signature breads.  We still take the extra time to bake each loaf and cracker with care, with nutritious ingredients and big flavor in every bite.  Milton’s is obsessed with providing our customers with the only the best to support healthy living and happy taste buds.

Can we talk about the packaging? Every carton is printed on paperboard that is 100% recycled with a minimum of 35% post-consumer content, and printed with vegetable-based inks that have lower water consumption & low VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) which, in case you don’t know, high levels of can hang around in the air & in your body long after you’ve thrown the carton away. None of that here!

Milton's Craft Bakers brand new cracker varieties!

These crackers are pretty amazing. They sent me five boxes: Original multi-grain, honey multi-grain, chocolate multi-grain, blueberry multi-grain, and honey & corn. Immediately I opened the original & honey multi-grain varieties & served them with some goat cheese, that tomato jam I posted the other day & raspberry-jalapeno-cilantro jam. They were so good! The honey multi-grain had a natural sweetness that was spot on, and the original (my favorite!) was just the perfect snack cracker. Both of them went with the two kinds of jam equally well.

Later on that night I tried the chocolate and was once again blown away. They’re fantastic! Just the right amount of sweetness. I’m betting they’d be excellent with chocolate plum jam.

My dad was a big fan of the blueberry variety. I’m not into blueberries at all, so I gave him the box. He was in heaven… so if you’re a blueberry lover, then you’ll love it too. He said it was “like eating blueberry pie in a cracker.” He even asked me where he could buy it!

The honey & corn totally reminded me of cornbread. Delicious. That particular cracker was especially good with the raspberry-jalapeño-cilantro jam– very Southwestern.

These crackers are amazing alone, or with toppings. You can tuck some in your kid’s lunch or take them to work with you. Any dip, salsa, or spread would work with them. The original were even great with guacamole. And the chocolate ones would probably also be amazing with cream cheese! They’re NON-GMO, and most of the varieties are between 86-96% organic (an absolute minimum of 82%). No cholesterol, no saturated fats, low sodium, and they’re made with real honey, real chocolate and real blueberries! All natural, Kosher and get this: peanut free. All of which make them absolutely perfect for snacking on any time, anywhere. And also makes them great for kids. But you can also use them in a ton of different recipes! Milton’s has an awesome selection of ideas on their website for that, too. You can find Milton’s Baking products at a bunch of popular stores: Whole Foods, Target, Sam’s Club, etc. For more specific stores, click here & enter your zip code or location info.

  1. We are so the cracker family. My favorite combo is cream cheese and jalapeño jelly although the sweet cornmeal sounds like it would be perfect with some mayhaw jelly.

  2. I love crackers..both savory n sweet. Blueberry ones sound super yummy!
I like crackers w/ a spread able cheese or cream cheese(plain and flavored!) Something garlicky n herby. Thanks for the opportunity to enter…Norma

  3. I love crackers with cracked peppercorn cheddar. These chocolate and blueberry ones sound delicious!

  4. I love crackers..all types. My dog is especially fond of…(drumroll please)…ALL of them! (With cheese please.) So hard to find a nutritious cracker without a lot of salt though. These sound terrific.

  5. I love crackers with “Pika” Jelly – where I’m from we make spicy jelly out of our local peppers, simply delicious jelly spread across a cracker and washed down with some calamansi juice (lemonade with a kick). But since we live in California now, smoked gouda or brie would be a fine accompaniment.

  6. These sound fantastic! I grew up eating club crackers with my Nana, she loved to put butter on them, when she got older it was margarine. I still snack on them all the time, not so much with butter, but with goat cheese or peanut butter (sometimes both). I bet the kiddo would love the blueberry ones 🙂

  7. They all sound delish! Since I am such a cheese head those blueberry ones are calling my name! Top them with some nice goat cheese and honey… Or a soft ripened cheese like Cremont??? Oh yea now your talking!
