How much do you LOVE the summer light? Wow. It always impresses me. You can be an awful photographer, and in the summer as long as you use the light to your advantage, you’re golden.
Anyway, as you see from the title of this post and the above picture, this is all about vodka. Lemon-infused vodka. The perfect thing to sip on with some ice & maybe some tonic, as you enjoy this beautiful summer light. Preferably enjoyed outdoors, at twilight or right before the sun begins to set, on a humid yet pleasant summer night.
Because why pay for flavored vodka when you can make it yourself? If you get a bottle of good vodka, and some organic lemons, well you’ve got yourself a party.
DIY LEMON VODKA
Can be halved, quartered or doubled as needed
- two organic lemons
- 1 liter vodka
- 1 tablespoon extra fine sugar
- Clean a few jars or bottles & dry thoroughly. Set aside.
- Using a speed peeler, zester or paring knife, peel the lemon skins, taking care not to include the white pith. Put peel into the bottles or jars, pour the vodka over and add the sugar.
- Shake well. Leave the vodka to infuse for 5 days. You can remove the rind or leave it in.
Of course, the sky is the limit for what you can use to infuse vodka. You can use oranges, vanilla beans, limes, raspberries, strawberries, apple slices… you name it. Even gummy bears and -yes- candy corn. But let’s leave that for October.
Just be sure to use organic fruit. No one wants to party with a jar full of pesticides.
